Alaska: Public Protest Saves Mother Bear and Babies from Death

A happy ending!

A family of bears wanders into a suburban Alaska neighborhood. Humans flock to the area to see the bears. Mama gets nervous, fearing her babies are in danger. She huffs at the crowd. The government then decides to kill the bears.

Dead bears is where the story would normally end, but this story has a happy ending. THE BEAR’S LIVES ARE BEING SPARED.

In response to the overwhelming support for the bears, Fish and Game announced on Saturday that it would instead relocate the bears.

“Relocation is a short-term solution to what the department views as a long-term bear problem in Anchorage,” Sam Cotten, Fish and Game commissioner, said. “However, we have heard from hundreds of good people who really do not want to see these bears killed.”
